Agreed value car insurance

Cover that protects what your vehicle is really worth.

What is agreed value car insurance?

When you’ve put time, money and care into a classic car you love, you want to know it’s protected for what it’s worth. Agreed value car insurance gives you that confidence, so you’re never left guessing what might happen if the unexpected occurs.

At Abbeyfields Insurance, we arrange agreed value cover for classic, vintage and specialist vehicles of all kinds. It gives you a ore-agreed settlement figure if your vehicle is written off or stolen and can’t be recovered.

Instead of relying on a changing market valuation, we’ll agree the amount in advance. If the worst happens, that’s the figure you’ll receive, minus your policy excess. We’ll guide you through the process step by step to ensure your vehicle gets the right level of protection from day one.

How we agree the value of your car

Agreeing the right value starts with understanding your vehicle properly. We take this seriously, because the figure we set together needs to stand up should the worst ever happen.

To insure your vehicle at your agreed value, we need clear evidence of its current condition. All our insurers ask for six colour photographs showing its:

At least one image must show the registration number. You can email the photographs to us whenever you’re ready. Some insurers may ask for a valuation form, which you complete yourself. On occasion, an independent valuation may also be required.

Once we have your photographs and any required forms, we’ll compare your vehicle the current market, including auction lists, specialist guides and other trusted reference points. We’ll also consider factors that might influence its desirability, such as any notable owners or whether the model has appeared in any well‑known TV shows or films. Our team will guide you through the process, drawing on our decades of experience in specialist vehicle insurance.

Adding agreed value to your policy is simple. It can be done at any point during your cover period, and we don’t charge to issue the documents. The only time your premium may change is if your vehicle’s value has increased.

Check out our FAQs below. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, get in touch. We’ll be happy to help.

Market value reflects what your car is worth at the time of a claim. It can rise or fall depending on demand, rarity and wider market trends. Agreed value is a confirmed figure that you and your insurer set in advance. If your car is written off or stolen, that’s the amount you’ll receive, minus your excess. It’s important to keep your agreed value up to date, especially if your vehicle is appreciating. You can call us at any time to adjust it.

Not always. Restoration work can be expensive, but your vehicle’s final value will still depend on the market. You might spend a significant amount on a project, but that doesn’t guarantee your car will be worth the same figure. The agreed value will be based on your car’s condition, originality and history, supported by current market trends.

Agreed value isn't available for vehicle under restoration. Leaving your policy on a market value will allow the value to increase as the work progresses.

There’s no set rule, but it’s wise to review it whenever the market moves or you’ve made improvements to the car. Some models rise (or fall) in value quickly, so it’s essential to ensure you always know exactly how much your car is worth and call us to report changes in value so we can adjust your policy. We only charge additional costs if your vehicle increases in value, and we don’t charge to reissue your documents.

Yes, we can arrange agreed value cover for a wide range of performance and cosmetic modifications. Tell us what’s been changed to ensure your agreed valuation reflects the car you’ve built.

No. We don’t charge for issuing or reissuing agreed value documents. The only time your premium may change is if your vehicle’s value has increased.
